AIIMS RAIPUR UPGRADED DOME-1 PHLEBOTOMY ZONE; LAUNCHES PAPERLESS LABORATORY TEST REQUISITION SYSTEM FOR OPD PATIENTS

Raipur, 20 July 2026: AIIMS Raipur Upgraded its renovated DOME-1 Exclusive Phlebotomy Zone with the launch of a paperless laboratory test requisition system for OPD patients, marking another significant step towards patient-centric digital healthcare services. The recommissioned facility was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. Ashok Jindal, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Raipur.
The Phlebotomy Zone has been shifted back to the newly renovated DOME-1 after completion of infrastructure upgrades, including installation of a centralized air-conditioning system and improvement of patient amenities.
A major highlight of the recommissioned facility is the introduction of the Paperless Laboratory Test Requisition System for OPD patients. Under the new system, patients are no longer required to carry printed laboratory requisition forms from the outpatient department to the phlebotomy area. Once the treating doctor prescribes laboratory investigations electronically, the request is transmitted digitally to the laboratory information system. Patients can proceed directly to the phlebotomy counters, where staff retrieve the test request electronically and generate barcode labels for sample collection.
The initiative significantly reduces paperwork, minimizes waiting time, eliminates the possibility of misplaced forms, and streamlines the patient journey from consultation to laboratory sample collection. The digital workflow also enhances accuracy, improves efficiency, and supports environmentally sustainable healthcare by reducing paper consumption.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Gen. Ashok Jindal, Executive Director & CEO, stated that AIIMS Raipur is committed to leveraging digital technologies to simplify patient care while continuously modernizing hospital infrastructure. He appreciated the coordinated efforts of the Hospital Administration, Engineering Wing, Information Technology team, and Department of Laboratory Medicine in successfully implementing the upgraded facility and paperless workflow.
Prof. (Dr.) D. K. Tripathy, Medical Superintendent, highlighted that the recommissioned Phlebotomy Zone represents an important milestone in AIIMS Raipur’s ongoing digital transformation. He noted that the paperless laboratory requisition system will provide a faster, more convenient, and hassle-free experience for thousands of OPD patients visiting the institute every day while improving operational efficiency and patient safety.
Following the inauguration, Mr. Jekka Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Nursing Superintendent and In-charge, Phlebotomy Unit, demonstrated the functioning of the new digital workflow, barcode generation counters, blood sample collection areas, and the dedicated child-friendly sample collection room equipped with audio-visual aids to ensure a comfortable experience for pediatric patients.
The ceremony was attended by Lt. Col. Dharmveer Singh Chouhan, Deputy Director (Administration); Prof. (Dr.) Virat Galhotra, Additional Medical Superintendent; Prof. (Dr.) Sabah Siddiqui, Prof. (Dr.) Mrityunjai Rathore, Prof. (Dr.) Tushar Jagzape, Dr. Dibakar Sahu, and Dr. Ramesh Chandrakar, Deputy Medical Superintendents, along with faculty members, nursing officers, laboratory personnel, and other hospital staff.
The Hospital Administration has informed that all phlebotomy services will operate from the recommissioned DOME-1 facility with immediate effect. OPD patients requiring laboratory investigations are requested to report directly to the DOME-1 Phlebotomy Zone.
