NTPC Lara Gives Wings to the Dreams of 250 Girls Through Girl Empowerment Campaign

Raigarh, June 15. NTPC Lara has given wings to the dreams of 250 girls by nurturing their confidence, personality, and potential through the Girl Empowerment Mission (Balika Sashaktikaran Abhiyaan) over the past five years. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NTPC Lara has been successfully implementing this flagship programme with the objective of empowering young girls through education, life skills, health awareness, and personality development.


The closing ceremony of the Girl Empowerment Campaign 2026 was held on June 11, 2026, Director (Fuel), NTPC, Shivam Srivastava, and Mrs. Meenakshi Srivastava, Senior Member, Sr. Member Sanyukta Mahila Samiti joined as chief guest and interacted with children and motivate the participants to think big and try to achieve that. The dignitaries interacted with the participating girls, appreciated their achievements, and encouraged them to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.


Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted that empowerment of girls is not only a step towards social development but also a vital contribution towards nation-building. An educated, aware, and self-reliant girl becomes a source of positive transformation for her family, community, and the nation.


Launched by NTPC in 2018, the Girl Child Empowerment Campaign is a significant social initiative aimed at empowering girls through education, health and hygiene awareness, life skills, personality development, digital literacy, and confidence-building activities. Under this initiative, more than 13,000 girls across India have benefited so far.


NTPC Lara has been implementing this campaign since 2022, benefiting approximately 250 girls from villages surrounding the project area. The initiative reflects NTPC Lara’s continued commitment towards inclusive development and improving the quality of life of communities residing around the project.


During the 2026 edition of the campaign, 90 girls selected from nearby villages participated in a one-month residential training programme. The programme provided comprehensive training in yoga, self-defence, health and hygiene, digital literacy, sports, arts and crafts, communication skills, personality development, and essential life skills.
The training was designed to enhance self-confidence, leadership qualities, discipline, self-reliance, and positive thinking among the participants, enabling them to face future challenges with greater confidence.
Appreciating the efforts of the girls, Mrs. Meenakshi Srivastava praised their enthusiasm, talent, and remarkable transformation during the programme. She encouraged them to continue progressing through education, discipline, and self-confidence, stating that every girl possesses immense potential which can be channelized through the right opportunities and guidance.


The highlight of the closing ceremony was the vibrant cultural presentation by the participating girls. Through folk dances, yoga demonstrations, self-defence performances, theatrical presentations, and other cultural activities, the girls showcased the skills and confidence gained during the training period. Their impressive performances enthralled the audience and reflected their remarkable growth.
On the occasion, Shri Subhash Thakur, Project Head, NTPC Lara, stated that initiatives like the Girl Empowerment Campaign are bringing meaningful changes in society by empowering the future generation. He emphasized that NTPC Lara remains committed to supporting educational, skill development, sports, and personality development initiatives for children and youth in surrounding communities.


During the ceremony, participating girls were felicitated with certificates and mementos in recognition of their successful completion of the programme. The event concluded with a spirit of achievement, inspiration, and renewed confidence among the young participants.


Through the Girl Empowerment Campaign, NTPC continues to contribute not only towards meeting the nation’s energy requirements but also towards creating a more inclusive and empowered society by enabling girls to become confident, capable, and self-reliant individuals.
