Vedanta’s BALCO Medical Centre to Host Free Keyhole Surgical Camp Led by Renowned Surgeon

Raipur, May 5, 2026: Vedanta Medical Research Foundation – BALCO Medical Centre (BMC), a 170-bed state-of-the-art not-for-profit hospital in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is organising a free mega laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical camp from 5th to 7th June 2026 at its facility.

The camp will be led by Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, Director of the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, and Founder of the Digestive Health Institute. A globally acclaimed expert in laparoscopic, bariatric and digestive surgery, Dr. Lakdawala has performed over 50,000 surgeries, with a strong focus on laparoscopic and bariatric procedures. He and his team of surgeons, anaesthesiologists and clinical specialists, supported by the BMC team, will bring advanced surgical expertise to patients in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring regions.

Over three days, selected patients will undergo a range of laparoscopic procedures, including gallbladder surgery, appendix surgery, hysterectomy, bariatric surgery, fundoplication, and various types of hernia repairs. These procedures are performed through keyhole incisions using specialised instruments and a camera, allowing for faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, and reduced complications.

Patients will be screened based on clinical suitability and eligibility criteria. Consultation, surgery, hospital care, and follow-up under the camp will be provided at no cost to the patient. All associated costs will be borne by the Vedanta Group.

“We are looking forward to organising the camp and are preparing for it to serve the people of Chhattisgarh,” said Dr Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, expressing her enthusiasm for the initiative. “Procedures such as hernia and gall bladder surgery are routine, yet many patients have to wait for long periods or are unable to afford the treatment. They continue to live with these conditions, which affect their daily quality of life.

She added, “Through this camp, we aim to address these challenges in a focused manner. I am very grateful to Dr Lakdawala and his team for their time, expertise, and for sharing the same vision of making quality care accessible. Initiatives like this bring the best of modern medicine closer to the people who need it most.”

Dr Diwakar Pandey, Head of Surgical Oncology at BMC, added, “We are reaching out to patients across districts in Chhattisgarh who may otherwise not seek surgery, often due to access and logistical challenges. Our teams are identifying and counselling such patients and supporting them through the entire process. At BMC, we have the infrastructure and clinical teams to manage these procedures end-to-end. With experienced surgical teams leading the camp, patients will receive safe treatment along with appropriate post-operative care and follow-up within the same facility.”

This initiative is part of the Vedanta Group’s larger commitment to expand access to high-quality healthcare and respond to the broader needs of the community. By bringing nationally and globally recognised expertise to Chhattisgarh, the hospital continues to strengthen its efforts to make advanced care accessible, affordable, and closer to home.

The camp will accommodate up to 100 surgeries to ensure proper screening and safe surgical care. Patients are required to register in advance and will undergo clinical evaluation before selection. Post-operative care and follow-up will be managed by the BMC clinical team.
