SECL Director Reviews Mining Operations, Monsoon Preparedness at Kusmunda Mega Project

Korba, June 22: Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Director (Technical), Project & Planning, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), visited the Kusmunda Mega Project on Sunday and conducted a comprehensive review of mining operations and monsoon preparedness measures being undertaken at the project.

During his visit, Shri Mohapatra inspected coal production, dispatch and overburden removal (OBR) activities and assessed the progress of mining operations across various patches of the mine. He reviewed key production and productivity parameters and held discussions with project officials on strategies to achieve operational targets efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety.

The Director also took stock of the arrangements made to ensure smooth mining operations during the monsoon season. He reviewed drainage management systems, dewatering and pumping arrangements, slope stability monitoring and other preventive measures implemented to minimize weather-related disruptions and maintain operational continuity.

Emphasizing the importance of safety and sustainable mining practices, Shri Mohapatra directed officials to remain vigilant during the rainy season and ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols. He stressed that operational efficiency, environmental compliance and worker safety must go hand in hand with production growth.

Senior officials of the Kusmunda Area accompanied the Director during the inspection and briefed him on ongoing developmental initiatives, production performance and future action plans. They also apprised him of the measures being taken to strengthen infrastructure and enhance preparedness for the challenges posed by the monsoon.

The visit forms part of SECL’s continuous efforts to monitor operational performance, improve productivity and ensure safe and uninterrupted coal production from one of the company’s largest and most significant mining projects.

The review is expected to further strengthen coordination among field officials and support the achievement of production targets while maintaining environmental and safety standards at the Kusmunda Mega Project.
