“Police will have to be in an alert mode to tackle cybercrimes” : DGP Ashok Juneja

DGP inaugurates a two-day training program at Police Headquarters

Director General of Police Mr. Ashok Juneja inaugurated a two-day cyber training program, jointly organised by Google and Paytm, at Police Headquarters in Nava-Raipur on August 21. The event, attended by cyber nodal police officers (Add. SP or DSP), district cyber cell chiefs, and police officers posted in Cyber Thana at the range level, aimed to equip officers with skills to combat cyber fraud. Experts from Google and Paytm trained participants on preventive measures and rapid response strategies.

DGP Mr. Juneja addressed the state cyber police and district cyber cell heads and instructed them to increase vigilance due to rising cyber crimes, fraud, and blackmail cases. He highlighted the significance of the Data Protection Act 2023 alongside the IT Act, now effective. The Act bolsters efforts against mounting cybercrimes, ensuring culprits face legal consequences. Mr. Juneja emphasised its provisions enabling effective arrest and punishment of cybercriminals through court proceedings.

DGP Mr. Juneja instructed the officers to maintain updated records of cyber fraud cases in both physical and digital formats so that relief can be provided to the complainer with a swift resolution. He emphasised proactive collaboration with officers from other states to arrest cyber criminals operating across borders, and ensuring prompt action against offenders.

During the training, Additional ADG Mr. Pradeep Gupta highlighted the considerable challenge of apprehending criminals, gathering evidence, and ensuring their legal prosecution. He stressed the necessity for police to receive training in the latest techniques. He expressed optimism that insights shared by representatives from financial institutions like Google and Paytm through training would greatly benefit law enforcement. The training session featured experts from Google and Paytm who provided extensive insights into topics including the Law Enforcement Request System (LERS) portal, fraud trends, emergency requests, business transactions, and monitoring. The Paytm team delved into the intricacies of online banking and shared the measures Paytm employs to counter cybercrime.

Additional Superintendent of Police for Cybercrime, Mr. Kavi Gupta, presided over the training program. Additional DGPs, Mr. SRP Kalluri and Mr. Himanshu Gupta, and senior officers and employees of the police headquarters were present.
