Raipur, 4 August 2023 . Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel paid obeisance to former minister and popular leader Late Mr. Mahendra Karma on the occasion of his birth anniversary on August 5. Remembering him, Mr. Baghel said that as the leader of the opposition in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly and as a minister, Mahendra Karma Ji assumed crucial responsibilities and made an invaluable contribution to the development of Chhattisgarh. He was not only a politician but also a very sensitive, aware, and passionate human being. Karma ji used to stand up strongly in every fight for the rights of tribals; hence, he was also known as the Bastar Tiger. The Chief Minister also said that he was fortunate to have such a selfless person like him as a friend. Karma Ji fought for the tribals’ betterment until the last moment of his life. Chhattisgarh will never forget his martyrdom in the Jhiram Valley Naxal attack.
Mr. Baghel said that in order to make the memory of Mr. Mahendra Karma everlasting, the state government named the Bastar University after him, and a social security scheme was started for Tendupatta collector families in the state in his name. Mr. Baghel said that Karma Ji’s thoughts and values will always inspire us.
