Hyderabad, July 15: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) represented Coal India Limited (CIL) at the BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit being held in Hyderabad from July 14 to 16 under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, highlighting the public sector miner’s people-centric human resource practices and employee welfare initiatives before an international audience.
Representing Coal India, SECL Director (Human Resources) Biranchi Das participated in a panel discussion on “Best Practices in BRICS+ Countries,” where he presented the organisation’s successful human resource management model and shared its experience in building an employee-focused work culture.
Addressing delegates from BRICS and partner nations, Das outlined Coal India’s comprehensive HR framework for its workforce of more than 2.2 lakh employees, one of the largest in India’s public sector. He highlighted initiatives related to employee welfare, women empowerment, skill development, leadership building and harmonious industrial relations, stating that participative management and employee-centric policies have played a significant role in strengthening organisational performance and productivity.

He also showcased SECL’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes, including “SECL Ke Sushrut” and “SECL Ki Dhadkan,” describing their positive impact in improving healthcare and educational facilities across coal-bearing regions.
The BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit, organised under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, is being held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The three-day event has brought together more than 50 international delegates, besides representatives of Indian trade unions, labour experts and academicians.
The summit is deliberating on a wide range of issues, including universal social security, future-ready skill development, responsible use of artificial intelligence, human-centric technology and the evolving role of women in the world of work. The discussions are expected to strengthen cooperation among BRICS nations in promoting inclusive labour policies and sustainable workforce development.
This participation provided Coal India and SECL an opportunity to present India’s best HR and CSR practices on an international platform while reinforcing the country’s commitment to inclusive growth, employee welfare and sustainable industrial development.
