NTPC Korba Marks World Environment Day with Week-long Awareness Drive

Korba, June 6: NTPC Korba celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with fervour and active public participation, reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. A week-long series of awareness programmes and competitions was organised from May 28 to June 5, drawing enthusiastic participation from employees, their family members, students and members of the local community.

The celebrations featured a range of activities, including quiz, essay writing, slogan writing and painting competitions, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging responsible environmental practices. Participants from different age groups actively took part in the events, making the campaign a community-driven initiative.

As part of the World Environment Day observance, a plantation drive was conducted within the NTPC Township premises on June 5. More than 100 participants joined the initiative and planted saplings under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change’s flagship campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”

Girls enrolled under NTPC’s Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) from project-affected villages also participated enthusiastically in the plantation programme, highlighting the organisation’s efforts towards inclusive community engagement.

The event also featured an Environmental Protection Pledge and an awareness rally, through which participants conveyed the message of environmental responsibility and sustainable living.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Kishore Chandra Patra, Head of Project (HOP), NTPC Korba, called upon all stakeholders to contribute actively towards environmental protection. Appreciating NTPC Korba’s achievements in environmental stewardship, including the plantation of more than three million trees over the years, he emphasized that environmental conservation remains a key pillar for achieving sustainable development.

The celebrations concluded with the distribution of prizes to winners of various competitions. Shri Munesh Kumar Vishwakarma, Deputy General Manager, Environment Department, expressed gratitude to all participants, guests and supporting teams for their valuable contribution to the successful observance of World Environment Day 2026.
