Coal India Ltd. on Monday celebrated the 99th birthday of its first Chairman, Dr. Ram Nath Sharma.
Shri. Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, CIL, Shri. S. N. Tiwari, Director (Marketing), CIL, Shri. Vinay Ranjan, Director (P&IR), CIL, Shri. B. Veera Reddy, Director (Technical), CIL & Shri. S.K. Sadangi, CVO, CIL connected to Dr. Sharma virtually from CIL Hq. in Kolkata to his residence in Jamshedpur. They greeted Dr. Sharma on his birthday and wished him a long and healthy life.
Coal India’s former Chairman Shri M. P. Narayanan, Shri. Shashi Kumar, Shri. P. K. Sengupta, Shri. Partha Bhattacharya, Shri. Sutirtha Bhattacharya and Shri. Anil Kumar Jha also connected to Dr. Sharma virtually and wished him a long and healthy life.
After the nationalisation of coal mines, Dr. Sharma’s services were sought by the government and he joined Coal India Ltd. where he served from 1972 to 1980 as CEO of BCCL, CCL and CMPDI, and finally took over as Chairman, Coal India Ltd.
Dr. Sharma is an alumnus of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. After qualifying as a first-class manager, he began his career as a mining engineer with Tata Steel Mining Division in 1949.
Dr. Sharma also headed various Tata Group of companies and provided consultancy to various prestigious organisations. He was also a faculty member at Administrative Staff College, Hyderabad and served as member of the governing body of IIM, Calcutta and ISM, Dhanbad.
Dr. Sharma continues to work to date, dedicating his time and energy to improving education services as Chairman of Jamshedpur Arya Samaj Trust and at its schools. He is an avid reader and was also a golfer who continued to play the sport competitively, till 2020.
