KORBA : Doctor abuses position, black marketing vaccine

KORBA, Jul 3 While the district is battling against vaccine crisis, a doctor is allegedly selling vaccine at high rates in his private clinic. Appointed at Rani Dhanraj Kunwar Govt Hospital through DMF Fund, Dr Ashok Makhija is selling vaccine at Rs 600 to Rs 1200. District Collector Ranu Sahu, on receiving this information, has expressed displeasure and said that strict action will be taken against the doctor, if the allegation is proven true.

It needs a mention that central and state government have announced free vaccination for all. However, the paediatric clinic of Dr Ashok Makhija is recovering hefty amount for vaccination. He is currently working at Rani Dhanraj Kunwar Govt Hospital, been appointed under DMF fund. It has to be mentioned that doctors appointed under DMF are not allowed to continue private practice. However, Dr Makhija is clearly violating the conditions and at the same time, is selling the government vaccine at high rates. When questioned in this regard, Dr Makhija initially denied the allegations but later said that several vaccine vials were left unused during the vaccination campaign for BPL families. He used to collect these vials and administer it on his patients. He added that CMHO Dr BB Borde was aware of the entire scenario.

In the past, Dr Makhija had been working as government doctor at District Hospital and several complaints wete raised against him for negligence in treatment and delayed attendance. He was jailed in one case and later resigned from his position. He was later appointed at Rani Dhanraj Kunwar Hospital under DMF. However, he continued working at his private clinic and neglected his duties at hospital.

After joining, Collector Sahu came to know about these irregularities. She said that if the allegations are found true, strict action shall be taken against the doctor. District administration has launched a campaign for free vaccination but the doctor is abusing his position. She said that such black marketing of vaccine shall not be tolerated.

CMHO Dr BB Borde said that he had issued a warning to Dr Makhija, asking him to shut down his clinic, but he did not comply. No private clinic or hospital has been permitted to administer COVID-19 vaccine.
