Target to transform 10 lakh illiterates to literates in Chhattisgarh
One lakh Ullas Literacy Centers started in state
One lakh selected volunteer teachers will teach targeted beneficiaries.
Raipur, 08 September 2024/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai virtually inaugurated one lakh Ullas Literacy Centers at the state level Ullas Fair organized at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in the capital city on the occasion of International Literacy Day.
As per information, one lakh volunteer teachers have been selected by the State Literacy Mission of the Education Department to run these literacy centers. The responsibility of the volunteer teachers is to make 10 illiterates literate by introducing them to recognize alphabets in order to develop their reading and comprehending skill.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Sai inaugurated the state-wide Ullas Literacy Campaign by garlanding the statue of Maa Saraswati and lighting a lamp. He released the Ullas poster, Ullas song, newsletter and brochure related to the campaign. During this, a documentary film based on the Ullas program was also screened. The exhibition has been organized by SCERT along with its additional 5 divisions.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that education is the ‘basic Mantra’ of development. “If a person has to develop in any field, then education is very important. It is not merely a means to obtain a degree or a government job rather education is essential for everyone whether pursuing a career in business, social service, or politics, said Shri Sai.
Chief Minister said that our country has been a pioneer in the field of education. The work of National Literacy Mission is commendable going well under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Shri Sai shared his experience and quoted a few examples in which he mentioned the incidents happening with illiterate people. He said that if such innocent people were literate, then they could have avoided such fraud. Therefore, it is very important for all illiterate people to be literate.
Highlighting relevance of education, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that knowledge and education is spread by sharing. Hence, all the illiterate people around us have to be literate and we collectively can achieve this by making literate 10 lakh people and beyond in our state.
Chief Minister Shri Sai glorified efforts of newly literate title achiever Smt Shanti Devi Thakur, a resident of Bagbahara in Mahasamund district. Shanti Devi, who is physically disabled can now write with her feet after becoming literate. Her handwriting is legible and we are very happy to see this.
In compliance with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision the National Education Policy 2020 has been implemented in the entire country. Following Prime Minister’s intention Chhattisgarh government has also implemented the new education policy and around 211 schools of Chhattisgarh are run under PM Shri Yojana.
On this occasion, along with administering the Ullas Literacy Pledge to the people, he called upon all the volunteer teachers and motivators to enable the illiterates by imparting them basics of mathematics calculation and alphabet knowledge.
Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, who was presiding over the program, said that remarkable work is continuously being done in the field of education in the state. He said that the State Literacy Mission is an organization doing good work without budget, which is promoting education for everyone. He said that SCERT has made an action plan to provide primary education in the major dialects of Chhattisgarh so as to enable education among those, who understand different dialects.
Addressing the program, Raipur MP Shri Brijmohan Agrawal said that the Literacy Mission was stopped for the last 5 years, which has been started again under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi is making many welfare schemes for poor brothers and sisters in all the fields along with education.
School Education Secretary Mr Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi said that under the National Education Policy 2020, a grand Literacy Week was organized in the country and the state from 1 to 8 September to promote the Ullas Nav Bharat Literacy Program. During this, various programs focused on education and literacy were organized in all the districts, blocks, urban areas and Gram Panchayats of Chhattisgarh as well as educational institutions.
In the program, newly literates including Mrs Mohini Patel of Durg district, Mrs Shanti Bai Thakur of Mahasamund district, Mrs Meena Nareti of Kanker, Mrs Sheetal Dhiwar of Bilaspur district, Mrs Sumita Singh of Balrampur district were honored. Similarly, among the volunteer teachers, Mrs Karishma Patel of Rajnandgaon, Kumari Shanti Nag of Sukma, Kumari Shruti Tiwari of Surguja, Mr Harsh Sahu of Bilaspur, Mrs Nirjala Dhiwar of Raipur were honored. On this occasion, MLAs Shri Punardar Mishra, Anuj Sharma, Indra Kumar Sahu, Rajesh Munat, Motilal Sahu, Guru Khuswant Saheb along with other public representatives, State Literacy Mission Director Shri Rajendra Katara, Comprehensive Education Managing Director Shri Sanjeev Jha, Raipur District Collector Shri Gaurav Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Santosh Singh along with departmental officers and employees and a large number of students were present.
