Raipur, August 01. Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Handa, an internationally renowned dermatologist, distinguished medical academician, researcher, and the newly appointed President of AIIMS Raipur,
Prof. Handa currently serves as Dean (Research) and Senior Professor & Head, Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology, PGIMER, Chandigarh. With an illustrious academic career spanning more than 35 years, he is widely recognized for his outstanding contributions to dermatology, postgraduate medical education, clinical research, and academic leadership. His areas of expertise include immunobullous disorders, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and pediatric dermatology.
An internationally acclaimed academician, Prof. Handa has previously served as Consultant (Dermatology) with the Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam, Commonwealth Fellow at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, Visiting Professor in Germany, and Resource Faculty for the Kuwait Institute of Medical Specializations. He has authored over 385 scientific publications, contributed to leading dermatology textbooks, mentored numerous postgraduate and PhD scholars, and delivered invited lectures at more than 40 international and 130 national scientific conferences.
Prof. Handa has held several prestigious leadership positions in professional medical organizations, including President of the Contact and Occupational Dermatoses Forum of India and President of the Punjab, Chandigarh & Himachal Pradesh Branch of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL). His distinguished contributions have earned him numerous national honours and fellowships, including Fellowship of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (FRCP), and Fellowship of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD).
In recognition of his contributions to dermatology, medical education and research, Prof. Handa has received several prestigious honours, including the IADVL Prof. L.K. Bhutani Award for Teaching and Research in Dermatology in 2015.
Under his leadership, the Department of Dermatology at PGIMER Chandigarh has achieved international recognition, being ranked No. 1 in Asia and 18th globally for Dermatology by EduRank in 2026. The department has also launched India’s first DM Programme in Pediatric Dermatology, further demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
