United Nations to provide financial aid of Rs 31.404 crore
MoU signed between United Nations and Agriculture Department
Raipur, 29 September 2023/ A special program will be conducted in Balrampur and Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh to encourage the production of wheat and rice here. For this program, financial aid of Rs 31.404 crore will be provided by the United Nations. This program will be conducted solely with the aid amount, and along with the production of rice and wheat, digital agriculture will also be encouraged. This program will be operated for the duration of 5 years.
An MoU was signed today between the Agriculture Department of the State Government and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations at Mantralaya (Mahanadi Bhawan) located in Nava Raipur. In the program organized under the chairmanship of Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr. Kamalpreet Singh, Director Agriculture Mrs. Chandan Sanjay Tripathi signed the MoU on behalf of the state government and United Nations representative Mr. Takayuki Hajiwara signed on behalf of the UN. In the program, Project Director of Food and Agriculture Organization Mr. Prashant Kumar Swain, Joint Secretary Agriculture Mr. K.C. Paikra, Additional Director Agriculture Mr. C.B. Lodhekar, Mr. R. l. Dhurandhar, Joint Director Agriculture Mr. Kapildev Deepak, Mr. Amit Singh along with officers and employees were present.
Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr. Kamalpreet Singh informed the representative of the United Nations about the immense scope for export of non-basmati paddy from the state, the possibilities of coffee and tea production, the facilities of crop loans available at zero percent interest for the farmers of the state for agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and fishery. He also informed about the additional input grant amount being provided to the farmers growing aromatic paddy and other crops.
Agriculture Production Commissioner Mr Singh gave information about the state government’s efforts to promote organic farming by distributing vermi compost prepared under Godhan NYAY Yojana and also through implementation of Millet Mission, under which the production and area of millet crops like Kodo-Kutki, Ragi is being expanded in the state. He also Informed about various innovative measures being taken by the state government to promote small scale industries through Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park (RIPA), to strengthen the rural economy of the state. The projects of Food and Agriculture Organization were described as catalysts to the efforts and initiatives of the state government.
