The Godhan NYAY Yojana has created new employment opportunities in rural areas. The women of the self-help group associated with Gauthans have laid the foundation of their success with their hard work. The women of the Roshni Women Self-Help Group in the Padumatra village Gauthan of the Rajnandgaon Development Block are earning significant income through earthworm production using scientific method. They are now earning an income of Rs 1.5 lakhs, providing the much-needed resource to farmers in need and new Gauthans.
The group’s president, Smt. Kumari Sahu has stated that they are motivating and training other women to engage in earthworm production as well. Earthworms play a crucial role in organic farming and are valuable allies to farmers. By exploring and adopting the possibilities of earthworm production and sales, the women of the group have created a new means of income generation. These women have taken a significant step towards their economic empowerment. Various income-generating activities being conducted in Gauthans including procurement and sale of cow dung, earthworm, and vermicompost production, and community gardening are providing employment opportunities to both cattle rearers and the women SHGs.
