Chhattisgarh Labour Commissioner declares the minimum rate of wage

Raipur, 9 May . The Chhattisgarh Labour Commissioner has announced the minimum rates of wages for the state’s labourers, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) released by the Labour Bureau Shimla. The minimum wages have been fixed for the period of April 1, 2023, to September 30, 2023, for the labourers employed in various scheduled employments. These rates have been raised by Rs. 20 per day and Rs. 260 per month for 45 scheduled employments and Rs. 225 per month for the labourers employed in the agriculture area. For the labourers employed in the incense sticks (agarbathi) industry, the minimum wage has been raised by Rs. 5.85 for every agarbatti roller (1000 sticks).

After the implementation of the declared minimum rate of wages, unskilled labourers will receive a minimum wage of Rs.10,480 per month employed in Zone ‘A’, Rs.10,200 per month employed in Zone ‘B’ and Rs.9960 per month employed in Zone ‘C’. The semi-skilled labourers will receive a minimum wage of Rs.11,130 per month employed in Zone ‘A’, Rs.10,870 per month employed in Zone ‘B’, and Rs 10,610 per month employed in Zone ‘C’. The skilled labourers will receive a minimum wage of Rs.11910 per month employed in Zone ‘A’, Rs.11650 per month employed in Zone ‘B’, and Rs.11390 per month employed in Zone ‘C’. The highly skilled labourers will receive a minimum wage of Rs 12990 per month employed in Zone ‘A’, Rs 12430 per month employed in Zone ‘B’ and Rs. 12170 per month employed in Zone ‘C’.

The minimum wage for unskilled agricultural labourers has been fixed at Rs. 8400 per month. For the labourers employed in the incense sticks (agarbathi) industry, the minimum wage has been fixed at Rs 32.81 for making incense rollers (1000 sticks) and Rs 33.51 for making fragrant scented incense rollers (1000 sticks). The Labour Commissioner has also informed that these minimum rates of wages will be effective from April 1, and more information related to this is also available on the website of Chhattisgarh’s Labour Department.
