Raipur : People are able to get affordable generic medicines in Chhattisgarh

Almost 53 lakh people saved a total of Rs 96.20 crore

Shri Dhanwantri generic medical stores are accessible in all of the state’s urban areas

Raipur, 11 April . In an initiative to enhance public health infrastructure and provide medicines at a low cost to the citizens of the state as a whole, cheap generic medicines are widely available to the general public in Chhattisgarh. More than 53 lakh citizens have benefited from affordable medicines with the help of the state government’s Shree Dhanwantri generic medical stores. This initiative operates generic medicine shops in all of the state’s urban areas. In these stores, generic medicines from well-known companies across the nation are discounted by 50 percent to 70 percent. So far, the scheme has provided a rebate of Rs 96 crore and 20 lakh to needy people on the sale of medications worth 155.54 crore as M.R.P.


As per the directive of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Yojana has been launched by the Urban Administration and Development Department as of October 20, 2021. Under this plan, 195 Shree Dhanwantri Medical Shops have been established across the state’s 169 urban bodies. Government doctors are now mandated to provide generic medicines to patients who come to the hospital for treatment. Medicines for colds, coughs, fevers, blood pressure, insulin, and serious diseases, along with antibiotics and surgical items, are also available at subsidized prices in Dhanwantri medicine shops.


However, the number of Shops operated under Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Yojana is,20 in Raipur district, 19 in Durg, 10 in Bilaspur, 9 in Janjgir-Champa, 8-8 in Raigarh, and Bemetara, 7 each in Balodabazar-Bhatapara and Dhamtari, Balod , 6 each in Korba, Kanker, Sakti, Surajpur, Mahasamund, and Kabirdham, 5 each in Rajnandgaon, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Dantewada, Jashpur and Balrampur, 4 each in Mungeli, Gariaband, Surguja, Kondagaon, Sukma, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, 3 each in Bastar and Bijapur, 2 each in Koriya and Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 1 each in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh chowki and Narayanpur.
