Dhamtari : district freed from blindness caused by cataracts in both eyes

All 223 patients were successfully operated on in the district hospital based on the surveyed list

Dhamtari 27 February . In accordance with the state government’s orders, Dhamtari district has achieved 100 percent success in operating cases of blindness caused by cataracts in both eyes. The district hospital successfully operated on all of the indicated patients who were surveyed. They can now see things with their own eyes. In this regard, it was stated that beginning in April 2022, a survey of patients with cataracts in both eyes was conducted, with 223 people identified, all of whom were operated on.

In this regard, it was said that the patient cannot see an object more than three meters distant due to cataracts in both eyes. This is a type of blindness ailment that causes issues for people. With this in mind, the state government instructed that a survey is to be conducted of individuals suffering from cataracts in both eyes so that they can see in at least one eye and live a normal life. In accordance with the aforesaid order, 223 patients have been discovered and successfully operated on since April of last year. Nodal Officer of Blindness Control Program Dr. J.S. Khalsa said that Cataract is an age-related disease due to which the vision of the patient’s eyes decreases and vision appear blurred. He said it can be diagnosed and can be cured with a 10-15 minute operation. Under the direction of Collector Mr. Rituraj Raghuvanshi and Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. S.K. Mandal, an intense survey was undertaken in the district’s villages and cities, and all 223 identified patients were operated. Cataract patients in both eyes are now able to regain their vision and live normal lives.

Meanwhile, From April 2022 to the present, three thousand 350 cataract patients were successfully operated on in the district hospital, according to the nodal officer of the blindness control program. From procedures performed in the district hospital and private health institutes during the last year, 5000 people have had successful eye operations. Hospital Superintendent and Civil Surgeon, Dr. A.K. Tondar along with his staff was involved in this endeavor, and as a consequence of the hard work of the entire team which included the situation of blindness caused by cataract in both eyes has been controlled in the Dhamtari district.
