Rural women in Chhattisgarh are making significant strides toward self-sufficiency
Herbal gulal is prepared using spinach, lalbhaji, turmeric, herbs, and flowers
Raipur 22 Feburary . There was a period when only the chemical-rich color Gulal was available in the market. Every year during the Holi festival, people were worried about skin problems. But, chemical-rich gulal is no longer a part of people’s lives as a result of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel’s implementation of the “Godhan Nyay Yojana.” In addition to making vermicompost through self-help groups, the women involved with the Godhan Nyay Yojana are also moving towards self reliance by assuming the lead in the manufacturing of herbal gulal.
The work of making herbal gulal with spinach, lalbhaji, turmeric, herbs, and used flowers without adding any chemicals is carried out by the group’s female members. In addition, gulal is also prepared in the processing unit by grinding the dried leaves of flowers offered at temples and flower market leftovers. To give different colors to the gulal beetroot, turmeric, mango, and guava are added along with the flowers.
Keeping in mind the last year’s demand, this year, the ladies associated with the Bihaan group are working day and night to prepare herbal gulal for the Holi celebration. The unique quality of herbal gulal is that it contains no chemicals at all, and using it has no negative side effects. In Herbal Gulal, only real flowers are used for aroma and color. The ladies of the Bihan group are engaged in preparing herbal gulal while keeping in mind the state wide demand. Members of women’s self-help groups are advancing toward economic independence as a result of their dedication to their work, which has led to prospects for self-employment.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ambika Sahu, a Jai Mata Di group member from the Mahasamund district’s Dogarpali Gram Panchayat, stated that she prepared 50 kg of herbal gulal for Holi last year and all of it was sold. The goal this time is to manufacture more herbal gulal while keeping in mind the demand from the previous production. The application of this gulal doesn’t affect the skin in any way. Prior to this, women of the Bihaan group said that, their goal is to increase awareness of the advantages of herbal gulal so that more people use it and can happily celebrate Holi.
