Chhattisgarh government’s Saur Sujala Yojana, which is being administered in the interest of farmers, is improving the lives of those living in rural areas. Through the Saur Sujala Yojana, irrigation infrastructure is being made available in inaccessible and unconnected locations, resulting in farmers’ fields thriving and farmers not having to worry about irrigation.
Due to a lack of electricity, many farmers used diesel pumps to irrigate their fields in the past, but as the price of diesel increased, it became out of reach for small farmers, causing a slew of issues. Farmers’ faces have beamed with joy after receiving irrigation facilities from the Saur Sujala Yojana; with the help of the installation of solar pumps, farmers are producing pulses and oilseed crops such as pulses, mustard, and urad on desolate fields, and their income has increased.
In addition to this, Mrs. Malti Bai Mandavi, a resident of Chapeli village in the Charama development block, has established herself as a progressive farmer in her community. She stated that she had to battle a lot for irrigation, and that owing to a lack of sufficient water, she had to undergo crop loss. She had to move for irrigation via a temporary electricity connection from roughly 800 meters distant, and only then could she organize irrigation for crops. However, thanks to the installation of a solar pump under the Saur Sujala Yojana, the irrigation problem has been rectified, and they are now cultivating pulses and oilseed crops such as Maize, Madia, Mustard, and Urad in their fields, from which they earn approximately Rs.02 to 03 lakhs yearly.
