CG State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has appealed not to disclose the identity of children in cases of sexual offences

Raipur 13 January . The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has appealed that it is crucial for society and the family to save children from doubt and lack of communication. The commission has asked the media to remember that disclosure of identity in cases of sexual offences against children is a violation of section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO Act) and a punishable offence with imprisonment of six months to one year or fine or both.

Appealed not to disclose the identity of the children

The Commission has maintained that the identity of the child cannot be disclosed in any way in case of sexual offences against children. The incidents of publishing names and photos through newspapers, electronic media, web portals, or other media are coming to light these days. The Commission has made these recommendations to prevent such incidents and to provide a safe and friendly environment for the children.

Commission appeals to media to do ethical reporting of such incidents

The Commission stated that it is necessary for media persons to know the laws related to child rights. Journalists know before the commission where the crime has taken place. Media should report cases of child rights violations and exploitation with sensitivity and responsibility. The commission has appealed that every case related to children should also be reported to the commission.

Common people also need to be aware of the laws

The Commission has appealed that it is the need of the hour to take serious note of the crimes involving children by the policymakers, judiciary, police, and media so that the dignity of any child victim, especially the child victims of sexual offences, is maintained and they can get justice without facing any problems. Common people also need to be aware of the laws related to the protection of child rights. In the case of crime against children, it is the responsibility of every section of society to raise their voices against it.
