Self-help group women are pursuing income-oriented multi-activity work in Gothan
Janjgir-Champa 3 January . With the motive to financially empower the rural populace, a multi activity Gothan has been constructed in the Tilai Gram Panchayat of Akaltara development block in Janjgir district. This Gauthan is spread over a sprawling 38 acres where rural women of the self-help group are creating new tangents of individual and collective success stories by engaging in numerous income-oriented activities along with cultivating vegetables. The women of the group are moving towards self-employment by working hard to change their fortunes as well as strengthen the economic condition of their family. The work of creating a(Badi) vegetable garden has been started in the Tilai gauthan under two groups from 2021-22. Under this, Durga and Jai Annadhari self help groups are producing numerous varieties of vegetables in this Gothan. The women of the group informed that this season they have earned cash profit of Rs 61 thousand by just selling vegetables. Mrs. Krishna Kaushik, president of Durga self-help group and Mrs. Anita Yadav, president of Jai Annadhari self-help group, further said that they have created a diverse and organic Badi(Vegetable garden) through which they are cultivating numerous vegetables like bitter gourd, tomato, brinjal, okra, bottle gourd, spinach, coriander, laal bhaji, radish, potato, spring onions etc and are selling them at substantial profits. They also informed that their agricultural produce is very healthy and fresh as they use organic manure which is also manufactured in gauthan On the other hand, the women of Aarti Self Help Group are preparing organic fertilizers from earthworms, and are also engaging in duck farming, poultry farming as well as Brahmastra and Jeevamrit manufacturing from cow urine. Cauliflower, cabbage, coriander, fenugreek, sweet potato, brinjal, okra, gourd, spinach vegetable, coriander, red vegetable, radish, potato, onion etc. have also been planted here by the group and majority of the people from the surrounding villages are buying the vegetables cultivated in gauthans in the nearby markets.
Earlier in 2021, the Durga Self Help Group had taken a loan of Rs. 1 lakh for Bari development by doing bank linkage through NRLM, out of which they repaid the loan of Rs 50000 and received an amount of Rs 15,000 as revolving fund. At the same time, a revolving fund of Rs 15,000 was also received by the Annadhari group. Apart from this, Napier grass is also being produced here by the Sita Self Help Group. Moreover,Technical information is being given by the Horticulture Extension Officer who provides advanced training to the members of the group for the cultivation of vegetables.
Rural Horticulture Development Extension Officer Moorit Sahu said that proper arrangements are being ensured to sell the vegetables produced in the year 2021-22 by these groups in nearby Anganwadis and hostels. He also informed that 270 new grafted brinjal saplings have been planted in this Gothan, the speciality of this brinjal is that it does not get wilt disease and the first crop can be obtained in 45 days and fruits can be obtained for 1 to 1.5 years. This plant gives 100-150 kg of fruits in its lifetime. It is also worth mentioning that a shade has also been prepared here for mushroom farming which will commence here soon. Apart from this, Under the D.M.F, free of cost Masala Grinding Machine and Power Pulverizer has been given to Durga Self Help Group, so that they can increase their income by grinding Masala and at the same time pure Masala can be made available to the common people at a reasonable price.
