Review Meeting Held on Preparations for the Local Body General Elections

Raipur, 08 October 2024/ The Chhattisgarh State Election Commission convened a crucial meeting at its office in Nava Raipur to review the preparations for the upcoming local body elections. The meeting was chaired by the State Election Commissioner, Shri Ajay Singh, and was attended by the Secretaries of the General Administration Department and Urban Administration Department, along with other concerned officials. The primary objective of this review meeting was to assess the preparedness for conducting the forthcoming local body elections in a smooth and transparent manner.

During the meeting, State Election Commissioner Shri Ajay Singh emphasized the importance of ensuring that the processes of delimitation and reservation are completed within the stipulated timelines. He stated that these procedures are vital for conducting timely and fair elections.

The meeting also discussed the current status of reservation in municipalities and the issue of unavailability of delimitation details due to judicial stay orders in certain urban bodies, including N.P.N. Rajnandgaon, N.P.P. Kawardha, Kumhari, Bemetara, and Takhatpur.

Several other crucial matters related to the general elections for the urban bodies and the three-tier Panchayats for 2024-25, as well as future by-elections, were deliberated upon. These included the determination of rental rates for vehicles to be requisitioned, honorarium for observers appointed during the elections, and proposals sent to the Finance Department for prior approval regarding the remuneration rates for the government officials and employees engaged in election operations, and vehicle hiring.

The meeting witnessed an in-depth discussion on various aspects of the election process. State Election Commissioner Shri Ajay Singh instructed the officials that all departments should work in close coordination to prevent any disruptions during the elections. He particularly emphasized the need to ensure the accuracy of the voter lists so that every eligible voter can exercise their right to vote in a rightful manner.

Commissioner Shri Singh stated that each stage of the electoral process would be regularly reviewed, and corrective measures would be promptly taken whenever necessary. He also stressed the importance of using various mediums to make the voter awareness campaigns more effective.

On this occasion, Secretary of the General Administration Department Shri Anbalgan P., Secretary of the Urban Administration and Development Department Shri Basavaraju S., Secretary of the Commission Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, Deputy Secretary Dr. Neha Kapoor, and Shri Alok Srivastava were also present.
