Felicitation Ceremony Organized on International Day of Older Persons

Old Age Home to be Built Using DMF Funds

Raipur, 03 October 2024/ “It is an honour for me to felicitate the senior citizens on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Every possible effort will be made to ensure the well-being and convenience of elderly citizens,” expressed the Minister for Industry, Commerce, Trade, and Labour, Shri Lakhan Lal Dewangan, during the senior citizens’ felicitation ceremony held at the Collectorate Auditorium in Korba district.

Minister Shri Dewangan announced that new Siyan Sadan facilities will be established in Korba district, keeping in mind the comfort and needs of the elderly. These Siyan Sadan centers will be equipped with air-conditioning and recreational facilities. In addition to residential amenities, healthcare services, including the provision of medicines, will be provided to the elderly residents. During the ceremony, Minister Dewangan felicitated senior citizens and elderly individuals by presenting them with shawls, coconuts, and walking sticks, and extended his best wishes to them. He also distributed motorized tricycles to eight differently-abled individuals in the Collectorate premises.

On this occasion, Collector Shri Ajit Vasant highlighted the significance of organizing the International Day of Older Persons on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Addressing the elderly, he said, “Today is a day to acknowledge the invaluable contributions you have made to society. You are the custodians of a rich legacy of experience. Just as a library’s collection of books grows over time, so does your reservoir of knowledge and experience.” He further provided essential information regarding the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. The Collector informed that a fully equipped old age home is being constructed under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) fund in the city.

On this occasion, senior citizen Mr. Mazumdar shared insights about the Balco Maitri Sangh, an organization that has been serving the elderly for the past 19 years. The event witnessed several elderly citizens sharing their experiences.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, Mrs. Siniwali Goyal, members of the Balco Maitri Sangh, senior citizens, and other elderly individuals.
