Virtual Foundation Laying Ceremony of Bhatgaon Water Supply Project at hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi via Video Conferencing

Water Supply Project worth Rs 56.78 crore to be commenced soon in Bhatgaon Municipality; Work Order Issued, Target Completion within Two Years

Raipur, 02 October 2024/ On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today performed the foundation laying ceremony for water supply project worth Rs 56.78 crore in Bhatgaon Municipality of Surajpur district through video conferencing from Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. The water supply project, approved under “Amrit Mission 2.0”, is set to be completed within the next two years. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Urban Administration & Development Shri Arun Sao joined the programs virtually from Bilaspur, which were organized in New Delhi and Bhatgaon. He was accompanied online by Bilaspur MLAs Shri Dharamlal Kaushik, Shri Dharamjeet Singh, Shri Sushant Shukla, and District Panchayat President Shri Arun Singh Chauhan, who also participated virtually in both locations.

Following Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s virtual address, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao also addressed the people present in Bhatgaon virtually. He emphasized that once the new water supply project commences, it will resolve the drinking water issues of Bhatgaon residents. Clean water from the Mahanadi River will be treated and supplied to households. After the completion of this project, Bhatgaon residents will receive 135 litres of water per person per day, as per national standards. Shri Sao said that it was their administration that established the state of Chhattisgarh, and they bear the responsibility for its development. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure the timely completion of all construction works related to the project, adhering to the highest standards of quality.

Water Treatment Plant of 2 MLD capacity, 64 Km Distribution Pipeline, and 3,586 Tap Connections to be Established

Under Amrit Mission 2.0, this water supply project, with an investment of Rs 56.78 crore, will source drinking water from the Mahanadi River by constructing a well at Gonda Anicut. The raw water will be transported through pipelines to the proposed water treatment plant for purification and subsequently made available to the residents of Bhatgaon. Currently, the town receives only 49 litres of water per person per day. After the implementation of this project, the supply will be enhanced to 135 litres per person per day.

The Bhatgaon Water Supply Project includes the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 2 Million Litres per Day (MLD), three elevated service reservoirs with a combined capacity of 750 kilolitres, a 64-kilometre distribution pipeline, and the provision of 3,586 individual tap connections. The work order for the project was issued in August this year, and the project is expected to be completed within the next 24 months.
