Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to lead ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign at Biodiversity Park, Atal Nagar on July 11

All attendees to plant saplings in honor of their mothers

Raipur 09 July 2024// ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ mega tree plantation drive is set to commence at 4 pm on July 11 at Biodiversity Park in Atal Nagar Nava Raipur, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap will preside over the event, where Chief Minister Shri Sai and other dignitaries will participate by planting saplings.

Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Sao and Shri Vijay Sharma, accompanied by cabinet members, MP Shri Brijmohan Agrawal, MLA Abhanpur Shri Indra Kumar Sahu, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Additional Chief Forest Secretary Smt. Richa Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force Shri V. Srinivasa Rao, along with other public representatives, officials, members of the Forest Management Committee, students, and local villagers, will all be participating in planting saplings in honor of their mothers.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree plantation campaign was initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day. The campaign aims to plant 80 crore trees by September of this year and 140 crore trees by March of next year across the country.

In Chhattisgarh, as part of this initiative, the Forest Department plans to plant 3.85 crore saplings in both forest and non-forest areas. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has proposed naming the plantation sites after local deities. The campaign involves planting various fruit trees such as mango, jamun, bel, jackfruit, custard apple, pomegranate, mulberry, plum, tendu, Ganga imli, as well as medicinal plants like Harra, Baheda, Amla, Neem, Putranjiva, Kala Siras, Reetha, Chitrak, among others. Urban areas will see the planting of shade-bearing species like Banyan, Peepal, Maulshree, Kadam, Peltophorum, Gulmohar, Karanja, Ashoka, Arjun, alongside other species. Schools, hostels, Anganwadi centers, police posts, hospitals, government premises, and various industrial institutions’ vacant lands are all designated for tree plantation activities under this campaign.

Meanwhile, the primary goal of this initiative is to maintain environmental balance by increasing green cover in Chhattisgarh through extensive tree planting efforts. The campaign is being implemented with the cooperation of all government departments, NGOs, voluntary organizations, panchayat institutions at all levels, schools, colleges, eminent citizens, and public representatives.
