Chhattisgarh’s tableau, “Bastar Ki Aadim Jan Sansad: Muria Darbar”, clinches a spot in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi after an intense nationwide competition. Out of 28 states, 16 have earned the prestigious opportunity to participate in the parade on the Kartavya Path. The Defence Ministry’s expert committee praised the distinctive theme and design of Chhattisgarh’s entry. The Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai expressed pride over the selection of the theme from Chhattisgarh and stated that it is a significant achievement for the state.
Chhattisgarh’s Republic Day Parade tableau revolves around the theme “India is the mother of democracy”, aligning with the Government of India’s vision. The depiction titled “Aadim Jan-Sansad” showcases the enduring democratic ethos within the tribal society of Bastar, which has persisted for over 75 years of independence. Highlighting the renowned Bastar Dussehra tradition, the tableau will portray the Muria Darbar, an ancient assembly dating back 600 years. Situated in Limau-Raja, Bade-Dongar, Kondagaon district, this tradition traces its roots to a time when a lemon symbolised kingship and decisions were collectively made by primitive communities.
Crafted through meticulous local research and guidance from senior officials, Chhattisgarh’s tableau theme and design have secured final approval in a five-stage, rigorous process. The 3D model, presented to the Defence Ministry’s expert committee, along with the music selection, have secured final approval. The tableau’s compelling theme and design captivated selectors, solidifying its place in the Republic Day Parade and marking a noteworthy achievement for Chhattisgarh on the national stage.
The Defence Ministry called for proposals from all states, union territories, and central ministries for Republic Day parade tableaux. Proposals undergo thorough evaluation in multiple meetings with an expert committee comprising eminent figures in art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography. The committee meticulously assesses submissions based on their thematic content, conceptual strength, design, and visual impact before making recommendations.
