CPI(M) has fielded a poor displaced person against the rich millionaires, Jawahar Singh Kanwar will be the CPI(M) candidate from Katghora

Korba. Communist Party of India (Marxist) has declared Jawahar Singh Kanwar as its candidate from Katghora assembly constituency. His name was announced by party district secretary Prashant Jha at a meeting of party supporters at the party’s district office Banki Mongra in an enthusiastic atmosphere. Party and CITU leaders VM Manohar and SN Banerjee, Nandlal Kanwar, Deepak Sahu, Devkunwar Kanwar and CPI(M) councilor Rajkumari Kanwar were also present in the meeting. A large number of workers and laborers along with land displaced people affected by Kusmunda, Gevra and Deepka mines were present in the meeting. CPI(M) state secretary MK Nandy had already approved Jawahar’s name.

In a statement issued here today, CPI(M) District Secretary Prashant Jha has said that against the rich millionaires of Congress-BJP, CPI(M) has fielded a poor land displaced tribal leader and leader of the struggles. Jawahar Singh Kanwar is a member of the CPI(M) District Secretariat and has been the District President of Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha for the last three years. During this period, he has played the role of a leader in all the movements organized by CPI(M), Kisan Sabha and CITU on basic human facilities like electricity, roads and water, issues related to rehabilitation and employment of land displaced people and problems of farming. During the movement of land displaced people, he had to face police beatings and even jailed. Due to all this, his image has been created as a struggling leader.

It is noteworthy that Jawahar Kanwar’s wife Rajkumari Kanwar is a CPI(M) councilor in Korba Municipal Corporation. Jawahar’s family has been displaced twice, first during the construction of Darri Dam and later due to land acquisition by SECL, and his family is struggling for rehabilitation and settlement along with employment, lease of land, return of previously acquired land to farmers and basic human amenities.

CPI(M) leader Jha has said that CPI(M) respects the struggle of the poor. CPI(M)’s nomination of Jawahar Kanwar from the tribal community from a general seat will help in taking forward the fight for the dignity and rights of the tribal community, land displaced people and rural poor. He has said that as an alternative to the pro-corporate policies of Congress-BJP, CPI(M) will contest the elections with full force and like Korba Municipal Corporation, the entry of Left wing in Chhattisgarh Assembly is also certain for the first time.
