Raipur, 29 August 2023 / Women in rural areas are not only becoming financially empowered but are also coming forward to support their families. Somari Maurya, a resident of Taragaon under Bastar block of the district, is delighted to have opened a mini rice mill in her own village. People of the village are also coming to the mill to get paddy pounded. Sharing her experiences, Somari Maurya said that with the help of Rural Livelihood Mission, she managed to open a rice mill in the village, and now she has not only become financially self-sufficient but has also improved the living standard of her family.
Somari Maurya shared that it was a wonderful opportunity for her to learn and understand the benefits of the self-help group. She could take small loans and managed to repay the loans on time. Her efforts to enhance and expedite the economic activities helped her improve her financial condition as well as the overall living standard of her family. With the help of bank linkage, she has set up a rice mill in the village, providing the facility of paddy milling to the villagers.
Somari told that during the cluster meeting of self-help groups, she proposed the idea and conferred with the fellow members. Based on the requirements of the nearby villages, she decided to open a mini rice mill locally. When Somari informed the members of the house about her decision, they extended their full support. Somari took a loan of Rs. 50,000 from the bank linkage of the group and also received a 3-day business training. She now provides paddy milling facility to the farmers and villagers with her mini rice mill at home. Somari is earning an income of Rs 8 to 10 thousand every month through skilful operation of this mini rice mill. Her main focus is to provide quality education and sound upbringing of her children.
