Social Welfare Department run Asha Manovikas Kendra Gharaunda: A support for children with physical and intellectual disabilities
Raipur 29 August 2023// As the festive fervour of Raksha Bandhan grips the market, a heartwarming initiative stands out in Mahasamund. These unique rakhis, not only aesthetically pleasing but also budget-friendly, hold a special significance as they are meticulously crafted by the Divyangs (specially-abled individuals) of Asha Manovikas Kendra Gharaunda, under the aegis of the Social Welfare Department.
Around 20 talented individuals with Intellectual disability, from the Gharaunda center in Nayapara, Mahasamund, have skillfully crafted these rakhis that have quickly become the preferred choice of customers due to their affordability. These exceptional rakhis are available for sale at stalls from August 27. Impressively, the children have already crafted over 1500 rakhis, and these creations have garnered significant demand in the market. Ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 100, these rakhis cater to diverse preferences. The women tied these rakhis on the wrist of Collector Shri Prabhat Malik, who commended their skills.
Boost self-confidence through training
Asha Manovikas Kendra serves as a nurturing haven for children with physical and intellectual disabilities. Through skill-building exercises, this center instils self-assurance while providing both shelter and training to these children. With approximately 20 Divyangs under its care, the center employs multifaceted training to boost their self-confidence. This establishment is undertaking a unique initiative during the Raksha Bandhan festival to foster social connections and enhance its children’s self-esteem.
Special guidance is being given to children
Children receive specialized guidance as they take center stage in crafting rakhis this season. The small training they received at the institution including colour identification, intricate knotting, and thread attachment, is helping them to craft these beautiful rakhis. They also make pooja materials, bangles, and candles. Usha Sahu, the head of center, stated that this endeavour not only generates modest income but also elevates the spirits of these Divyangs, developing a belief in their own capabilities.
Gharaunda Scheme: Empowering Lives through Lifelong Care
The Gharaunda Scheme is an ambitious initiative aiming to secure lifelong institutional support and standardized services for individuals severely impacted by conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, mental disabilities, and multiple disabilities. The scheme is dedicated to providing a safe place of care and rehabilitation ensuring the well-being and development of those who need it the most.
