Chief Minister pays tribute to Minimata on her death anniversary

Raipur, August 10, 2023 / Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel paid tribute to Minimata, the first woman MP of Chhattisgarh, on her death anniversary, which is observed on August 11. Chief Minister stated that Minimata, known for her humble and compassionate nature, dedicated her entire life to the service of humanity. She played a significant role in advocating for the Untouchability (Offences) Act in Parliament, which aimed to safeguard the civil rights of the Dalits. She raised her voice against child marriage and dowry practices, both within society and in the Parliament. Minimata remained vigilant and supportive regarding labour rights and women’s education. Additionally, she made commendable efforts to provide local residents with employment and industrial training opportunities at Bhilai Steel Plant.

Shri Baghel further stated that Minimata, originally hailing from Assam, seamlessly integrated into Chhattisgarh’s social fabric after her marriage. She elevated the dignity of women to new heights. Chhattisgarh government is currently implementing the ‘Minimata Mahatari Jatan Yojana’ to extend financial support for childbirth to underprivileged women labourers in unorganized sectors. In recognition of her remarkable contributions to societal upliftment and women’s empowerment, a state-level award is bestowed in Minimata’s name. The naming of the Hasdeo Bango Dam after Minimata in the state symbolizes her enduring legacy. Chief Minister affirmed that Minimata’s inspirational personality will forever be remembered.
