Significant increase in the water level of dams and reservoirs of Chhattisgarh due to incessant rainfall

Raipur, 04 August 2023 / Due to the incessant rainfall in Chhattisgarh for last few days, 12 major reservoirs of the state have filled up by 78.51 percent, while the water-level in 34 medium reservoirs has reached 77.86 percent. In this way, against the total capacity of 6360.23 million cubic meters, 4986.93 million cubic meters of water has been contained in the large and medium reservoirs of the state.

According to the data of Water Resources Department, Maniyari reservoir of Mungeli district, one of the major reservoirs of the state, is filled with water to 100 per cent of its capacity. Similarly, Minimata-Bango reservoir of Korba district, Tandula of Balod, Dudhwa of Kanker, Kharang of Bilaspur and Sikaser of Gariaband are 80 percent full. Ravi Shankar Reservoir (Gangrel) of Dhamtari has contained water to 75.20 percent of its capacity.

Due to continuous inflow of water from the catchment area, water is being released from some of the dams. As per the data of Water Resources Department, Kharkhara of Balod, Chirpani of Kabirdham, Pipariya Nala of Rajnandgaon, Khapri reservoir of Durg, which are counted among the medium reservoirs of the state, are 100 percent full. Likewise, Gondli in Balod, Sutiyapat and Karra Nala in Kabeerdham, Matiyamoti and Dhara in Rajnandgaon, Jhumka in Koriya and Barnai reservoir in Surguja have been over 90 percent waterlogged. Apart from this, Roose and Ghumaria of Rajnandgaon, Pendravan of Raipur, Kunwarpur of Surguja, Saroda of Kabeerdham, Balar of Balodabazar and Kedar of Raigarh have contained water to more than 75 percent of their capacity.
