Cow dung becomes an extra source of income for farmers under the Godhan NYAY Yojana

Dhamtari, 26 July 2023/ The Chhattisgarh Government’s ambitious Godhan NYAY Yojana is playing an important role in financially empowering farmers and cattle herders. Farmers are becoming financially empowered by selling cow dung. This scheme turned out to be a savior for school-going children, farmers, and poor cattle herders as the money received by selling cow dung has helped them to buy laptops, save money and fulfill their dream of buying land

The dream of owning land was realized by selling cow dung

The Yadav family of village Potiyadih in Dhamtari district has experienced a change in their lives through the implementation of the Godhan NYAY Yojana. Mr. Mohit ram Yadav stated that before the introduction of the Godhan NYAY Yojana, there was no accounting for cattle dung in the house, nor was there any special interest in collecting dung. But with the introduction of the Godhan NYAY Yojana, the importance of cow dung has increased. Now they sell cow dung regularly in Gauthan, and within 15 days money comes into their bank account. Due to this, their economic condition is improving. Mr. Mohit ram realized the dream of buying land by selling cow dung and now they have their own land.

Godhan NYAY Yojana becomes a means of livelihood for more than 3 lakh farmers

More than 3.5 lakh farmers benefit from the Godhan NYAY Yojana. Nearly 2.9 lakh of 17,834 self-help groups has received employment under this scheme. This scheme has strengthened women’s confidence by making them financially independent. Out of 10,327 approved gauthans, 10,263 have already been constructed achieving 99.38 % of the target. So far cow dung worth Rs 66.96 lakh has been purchased by 5,960 self-supporting gauthans in the state. Under Godhan NYAY Yojana, a total of 125.54 lakh quintals of cow dung have been procured from Gauthans across the state. The cow dung vendors have received Rs 251 crore. Additionally, Gauthan committees and women’s SHGs have received Rs 257 crore 29 lakh crore till now.
