Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) concludes at NTPC Lara

The four weeklong Girl Empowerment Mission undergoing at NTPC Lara station, concludes with
glittering cultural presentations by its participating girls on other day at Tarang auditorium. Shri
Diwakar Kaushik, ED Lara was the chief guest of this programme.


Shri Kanhaiya Das, AGM (HR) welcomed all dignitaries and briefed about the Girl Empowerment
Mission (GEM) programme. Shri Diwakar Kaushik, ED (Lara) inaugurated the programme and
addressed the gathering. Speaking on this occasion Shri Kaushik said, Girl Empowerment Mission
programme will act as a game changer in the life of participating girls. NTPC Lara is committed to
give chance more girls in future by organising this programme. Shri Kaushik highly praised the
performance of girl children and the changes happened during the four weeklong stays at Lara. Shri
Kaushik wished their bright future.


Forty rural girls in age group of 10 to 12 years reading in government schools were selected by a
survey by the CSR Department of NTPC Lara. The GEM workshop was started on 17 th May 2023 with
registration. Since first time such type of experience was faced by the children, initially they hesitate
to express themselves fully. With continuous support and pamper by the members of Prerita Mahila
Samiti, the girls feel comfort and cosy in the environment. In the four weeklong staying at NTPC Lara,
they were taught various skills to nurture them to face the competitive world. Girl Empowerment
Mission is basically a personality development programme designed for girl child. Besides their
regular course curriculum, they were taught how to do yoga, sports and games, self-defence, dance,
handicraft etc. Based on the weekly learning programme periodical assessments were also done to
understand the level of learning of the participants so that special focus can be given to the less
performing child.


Girl Empowerment Mission is the flagship CSR initiative of NTPC Limited. At present Girl
Empowerment Mission is organised at 41 locations of NTPC Limited across the nation.
In the concluding ceremony, different group presented cultural fest on different theme in the
presence of Shri Diwakar Kaushik, ED Lara and Smt Seema Kaushik, President (Prerita Mahila Samiti),
all general managers, office bearers of Prerita Mahila Samiti, employees, and their family members.
On this occasion Shri Akhilesh Singh, GM (Operation & Maintenance), Shri Rajeev Ranjan, GM (Fuel
Management), Shri S K Roy, GM (Operation), Shri Kanhaiya Das, AGM (HR), members of Prerita
Mahila Samiti, employees and villagers were present.
