Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel pays tribute to Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel paid tribute to Raja Ram Mohan Roy, the pioneer of the Indian socio-religious renaissance, on his birth anniversary, May 22. He emphasized Roy’s efforts to challenge prevailing social evils and orthodoxies of the time in Indian society, including child marriage, polygamy, the Sati system, casteism, outmoded rituals, and the purdah system. Roy also promoted inter-caste marriages, women’s education, and widow remarriages to improve women’s status in society. The Chief Minister emphasized the continued relevance of moderate thinkers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy in guiding the country towards development.
