Raipur’s historic buildings and religious legacy now easily accessible
Unique initiative of the government to connect the ancient legacy of the city

The exploration of one’s own city’s cultural, historical, and religious legacy will now be easily accessible to citizens, providing them with a beautiful and memorable experience. Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel presented the citizens with an exceptional bequest, the Heritage Walk, in Raipur today. Starting from the historic Town Hall, a witness of the independence era citizens will enter the oldest settlement ‘Purani Basti’ area of the city, and witness its historic religious inheritance, taking a glimpse of the Mahakaushal Art Gallery showing the historical legacy of the state. The entire route will pass by significant landmarks such as the Nagari Das Temple and Jaitusav Math. The Heritage Walk has been created at a cost of Rs 1.19 crores.
Chief Minister commenced his visit at Jaitusav Math, where he offered prayers to Lord Shri Ram, Mata Janaki, and Lakshman. Furthermore, he also garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and then proceeded to Hanuman Baoli where he worshipped Lord Hanuman. It is believed that this baoli is ancient, and about 500 years ago, people witnessed statues of Lord Hanuman inside it. As per tradition, there were three statues, out of which one was installed in the baoli, and another in Mathpara, where the Mahant takes milk after worshiping Hanuman ji. Due to this, the place is known as ‘Dudhadhari Math’. The third statue was installed in Machhli Talab located in Gudhiyari. It is worth mentioning that the baoli was recently cleaned, and a monkey-shaped figure was discovered on the inner walls of the baoli, which attracted a large number of people. It is noteworthy that along this route, several places have been included such as Budha Talab, Kilewale Baba, Budheshwar Mahadev Temple, Sheetla Mata Temple, Mahamaya Temple, Nagari Das Temple, Mahavir Vyayam Shala, Jaitusav Math, Jagannath Temple, and Turi Hatri.
As part of the Heritage Walk Route project, the city’s historic buildings such as the Town Hall and the Mahakoshal Art Gallery have undergone redevelopment. This project has included the construction of pathways from Budha Talab to Turi Hatri, the installation of electricity on the pathways, the installation of 40 attractive benches at 216 different locations for tourists, and the installation of 216 solar posts. The route has been beautified with attractive paintings over an area of 3,000 square meters. Road markings and attractive sign boards have also been installed for the Heritage Walk Route sites.
