Raipur: Dr. Lerinoa purchased Chhattisgarh Government’s minor forest produce and appreciated the initiative of giving community forest rights

 During meeting with Minister Dr. Tekam, he lauded the works of tribal welfare and development being done in Chhattisgarh  Dr Lerinoa invited Minister Dr. Tekam and the delegation of Chhattisgarh to visit the headquarters of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization

Raipur, 27 March . Dr. Yon Fernandes Lerinoa, Head of the Tribal Department of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, has lauded Chhattisgarh Government for its various tribal welfare and development works. He said that it is a positive step on the part of Chhattisgarh Government to procure minor forest produce at support price and to distribute community forest rights to the forest dwellers. On this occasion, Dr. Lerinoa invited Minister Dr. Prem Sai Singh Tekam and the delegation of Chhattisgarh to visit the headquarters of the United Nations World Food and Agriculture Organization.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Yon Fernandes Lerinoa, head of the Tribal Department of the United Nations Agriculture Organization, had a courtesy meeting with Tribal and Scheduled Tribes Development Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam during his visit to Raipur. During the meeting, Dr. Yon said that the tribal welfare schemes being run by the Government of Chhattisgarh are definitely an important step towards ensuring social justice for the tribal community. On this occasion, Dr. Tekam, while giving detailed information about the tribal welfare and development schemes and programs of Chhattisgarh government, informed about the support price of forest produce and the success of the forest produce procurement.

Minister Dr. Tekam also informed Dr. Lerinoa about the Chhattisgarh Government’s drive to promote production and consumption of millets (coarse cereals), various tubers and other traditional herbs in tribal areas. Dr. Lerinoa said that these efforts should also be linked to educational activities. This knowledge of traditional tribal community should be included as a formal curriculum in schools, colleges and universities, especially in tribal areas.
