Chhattisgarh’s ‘Nili Chhatri wale Guruji’ honored in New Delhi

Sikkim Governor conferred the “Life’s Real Heroes of India” Award on teacher Shri Rudrapratap Singh Rana

Raipur, 07 February . Rudrapratap Singh Rana, an assistant government teacher of Chhattisgarh popularly known as ‘Nili Chhatri wale Guruji’ received the “Life’s Real Heroes of India Award” for his outstanding work in the field of education. He was conferred this award by the hands of Sikkim Governor Shri Ganga Prasad and Acharya Pradyumna (mentor of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev) at programme organized in New Delhi on February 4. The award is given by ‘Aas Ek Prayas’ Trust every year to people from across the country who have done exemplary work in their field, bringing positive change in society.

Shri Rana is an assistant teacher at Government Primary School Sakda in Korea district of Chhattisgarh. He did outstanding work during the Covid-10 pandemic period keeping children connected with their studies when the schools were shut. The idea behind his unique initiative was that the children cannot go to school, so why not take the school to the children. He decorated his motorcycle with a bell, green board, a small library, and a blue umbrella and started teaching children in a locality of the village, ensuring their safety.

The children started calling him ‘Nili Chhatri wale Guruji”. The Prime Minister also liked this safe way of keeping children connected with the teaching-learning process during the difficult pandemic times. He also mentioned this in his “Mann Ki Baat” radio programme. Shri Rana, along with his friends, first came up with the concept of “Mohalla Classes” in Chhattisgarh for inaccessible and no-network areas, which later became very famous and popular across the country. He rejuvenated the primary school of the remote village of Sakda with the cooperation of the government and society and established it as an ideal school.

Teacher Shri Rana emphasizes experience-based teaching and tries to make the learning process interesting. Many documentaries have also been made about his school. Numerous children from his school have been selected for Eklavya Adarsh Residential School. He is also a part of the 5 member team of FLN under ‘NIPUN Bharat Mission’. His life journey has been highlighted in detail in the book ‘Life’s Real Hero’, which inspires and makes all hard-working teachers proud.
