Special Article : Rajim Maghi Punni Mela, Confluence of faith, spirituality and culture

Raipur, 04 February . Every year, from Magha Purnima to Mahashivaratri, a fifteen-day fair is held in Rajim, a holy religious city in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district. Rajim is also known as Triveni Sangam because of the confluence of three rivers: the Mahanadi, the Pairi, and the Sondhur. The Kuleshwar Mahadev temple is located at the confluence. Rajim Mela was first celebrated as Rajiv Lochan Mahotsav by the state government in 2001, then as Kumbh in 2005, and now as Rajim Maghi Punni Mela from 2019.


This event is being organised by the Chhattisgarh Government Endowment and Tourism Department, as well as the Local Organizing Committee. From Kalpavas the fair starts. Devotees begin the Panchkoshi Yatra a fortnight ahead of time. Devotees walk to Pateshwar, Fingeshwar, Bramhaneshwar, Kopeshwar, and Champeshwar Nath during the Panchkoshi Yatra. On Magha Purnima, the 101-kilometre journey concludes and the fair begins. This year’s Rajim Madi Punni fair will take place from February 5th, Magha Purnima, to February 18th, Mahashivratri. Every year, thousands of Naga sadhus, saints, etc. come, and take part in special festivals, bath in holy river, in this Maghi Punni Mela held every year, Lakhs of people come from different states and visit Lord Shri Rajeev Lochan and Shri Kuleshwar Nath Mahadev Ji considering their life blessed. People believe that Lord Jagannathpuri’s journey is not complete until they visit Lord Shri Rajeev Lochan and Shri Kuleshwar Nath, so the Rajim Maghi Punni Mela has special significance in the region.

Rajim is a small town with historical significance. Rajim is a Tehsil in the district of Gariaband. Rajim has long been known for its archaeology and ancient civilizations. Rajim is best known for its temple dedicated to Lord Shri Rajeev Lochan Ji. Rajim Temple was built in the 8th century. There is also a Kuleshwar Mahadev temple here. The temple of Kuleshwar Mahadev is at the point of convergence. Every year, from Magha Purnima to Mahashivratri, the Rajim Maghi Punni Mela takes place. The administration organises a variety of cultural and religious events during this time.
