Makar Sankranti celebrates, with festive zeal, the departure of the sun from Dakshinayan to Uttarayan while passing through the Makar Rekha. In different regions of the country, this festival is celebrated as Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Lohri. The festival of Makar Sankranti is the harbinger of the change of season.
