SECL & SECR Sign Concession Agreement for Chhattisgarh East Rail Corridor Phase II Project.

korba.The Concession Agreement between South East Central Railway and Chhattisgarh East Railway Limited has been signed for the East Rail Corridor Phase-II Project of the Company [Korba (Urga)-Dharamjaigarh] Rail Corridor on 15-03-2022 at GM Office, SECR, Bilaspur. The Concession Agreement has been executed today in the presence of Shri Alok Kumar, GM, SECR, Bilaspur. The signing of the concession agreement will pave the way for construction of the [Korba (Urga)-Dharamjaigarh] 62.5 Km new Rail Line.
Sri Y.K. Chaudhary, Chief Traffic Planning Manager, SECR and Sri J.N Jha, Chief Executive Officer of CERL, signed the concession agreement in the presence of Shri Alok Kumar, GM, SECR, Bilaspur and other Railway Officials. Also present on the occasion were Sri M.K. Prasad, D.T(O) SECL/Chairman, CERL & CEWRL and Shri Ankush Gupta, ED IRCON and Director, CERL and several other officers of Railways and officials of CERL.
The agreement delineates the responsibility of Construction, maintenance and operation of the Rail System by sharing freight revenue for a period of 30 years by CERL with Railways. CERL (a subsidiary of SECL) is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly promoted by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, Ircon International Limited and Govt of Chhattisgarh represented by Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation Limited.

The East Rail Corridor is expected to be completed by March 2025 at the Project Cost of Rs. 1686.22 crores to facilitate evacuation of coal from the Mand Raigarh Coalfields of SECL, Captive Blocks and Commercial Mining. The Project will provide alternate route to coal traffic originating in the Mand Raigarh Coalfields and Basundhara Coalfields.

The construction of rail corridor is a significant step to improve rail connectivity in the region, which is being executed as a Special Railway Project. It was informed that the land acquisition for the project has been largely completed and forest clearance is in advanced stage.
