Bilaspur, 28 Feb. The Pre-Conference Workshop and Scientific Sessions of CIMECON (Coal India Medical Conference) 2026, being hosted by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), were formally inaugurated today by Shri Biranchi Das, Director (HR), SECL.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Biranchi Das stated that “Healthy Mines” is not merely a theme, but a collective commitment to prepare for the challenges of the future. He emphasized that a healthy, capable, and vigilant workforce will be the greatest strength of the organization in the years ahead. Strengthening occupational health services, ensuring regular health screening of mine workers, timely diagnosis, and effective use of advanced medical technologies are essential to safeguarding the well-being of employees working in mining areas. He also highlighted the growing role of modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics in the medical field.

Senior medical officials of SECL and other Coal India subsidiaries, along with doctors from reputed hospitals across the country, were present on the occasion.

The first scientific session featured a workshop focused on Occupational Health, covering key topics such as spirometry, chest X-rays, ILO radiographs, pneumoconiosis, and issues related to Initial Medical Examination (IME) and Periodical Medical Examination (PME). The discussions emphasized early identification, prevention, and effective management of respiratory diseases prevalent in mining regions.

The second scientific session centered on the role of ECG in Ischemic Heart Disease, highlighting its significance in early diagnosis and timely treatment of cardiac conditions. Practical demonstrations and case-based discussions provided valuable clinical insights to the participating doctors.

In the afternoon, the DNB session showcased case presentations by young medical professionals on complex clinical topics. These included review of causes of hemoptysis in coal miners, Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy in young adults, and Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketotic State. The presentations were evaluated by an expert jury panel.

More than 250 doctors from Coal India Limited and its subsidiary companies, along with leading medical institutions across the country, are participating in CIMECON 2026. The first day of the conference concluded successfully with enriching deliberations and meaningful discussions, setting a strong foundation for the sessions to follow.
