Korba, Feb 14: South Eastern Coalfields Limited Director (Technical/Projects & Planning) Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra undertook an extensive inspection of the company’s mega projects at Kusmunda and Gevra, reviewing coal production, infrastructure development, Rehabilitation & Resettlement (R&R) progress and advance monsoon preparedness measures.

During his early morning visit to the Kusmunda Open Cast Project (OCP) on February 13, Shri Mohapatra inspected the Departmental Mining Patch, Godawari Patch and Nilkanth Patch. He reviewed ongoing mining operations, safety protocols, deployment of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) and the prevailing coal exposure position. Stressing the need to sustain production momentum, he directed officials to ensure optimum utilisation of HEMM, strict adherence to safety standards and close monitoring of key production parameters.

The Director also visited the Nilkanth Camp and inspected the R&R site at Jatraj, where he instructed officials to expedite pending works and ensure the development of quality infrastructure for project-affected families. He further reviewed connectivity arrangements and infrastructure facilities at the Kudurmal Bridge near Kanberi, underscoring the importance of seamless logistical support for mining operations.

A detailed review meeting was subsequently held with Heads of Departments, representatives of the R&R contractor and officials of RITES Limited to assess operational progress and infrastructure development. He emphasised time-bound execution of key projects and effective coordination among all stakeholders.

Later, at the Gevra Mega Project, Shri Mohapatra took stock of production and productivity performance, focusing on enhancing output, improving equipment availability and minimising operational downtime.

In view of the approaching monsoon season, he directed all concerned to undertake advance preparedness measures, including strengthening of haul roads and embankments, ensuring adequate dewatering systems, maintaining slope stability and safeguarding critical infrastructure to facilitate uninterrupted mining operations.

The visit reflects SECL’s continued focus on sustaining production levels while ensuring safety, infrastructure development and timely implementation of R&R initiatives.
