BALCO observed National Electrical Safety Week bolstering safety culture in the workforce

Korba, July 12, 2021: Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer observed National Electrical Safety Week. Various engagement programs were organized to involve our employees and business partners to promote electrical safety and awareness. The company conducted a host of activities including safety stand downs across the plant premises highlighting the dos and dont’s of electrical safety,an online drawing competition was organized for children of employees and business partners on the theme of ‘Connected to Safety – Save Life and property’, alsoa competition for identifying department with minimum electrical hazards reported and highest effectiveness for Q1 (Apr-Jun-21) was also kicked-off.

Mr. Abhijit Pati, CEO & Director, BALCO led a townhall on Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability. More than 200 employees and business partners participated in the townhall where Mr. Pati reiterated organization’s vision of strengthening BALCO’s position as the safest manufacturing organization in the global map. A comprehensive safety awareness video was launched in the event which showcased electrical safety practices to be followed at all the areas of operation.

BALCO has been one of the early adopters in India to explore the field of smart technologies in its operational set-up to increase safety in all the areas of its business operations.BALCO has been continuously automating its manual processes to make the workplace safer. In line with the same vision BALCO has completed the end-to-end automation of its Ladle Cleaning Shop (LCS). All the manual processes at the LCS have been replaced using RFID technology, and Pot room and Weighbridge systems have been integrated making the entire process efficient and workplace safer.BALCO has also completed the integration of control rooms of Coal Handling Plant of 540 MW and 1200 MW power plants and has established a Centralized Control Room to avoid hampering of operations in case of any emergency. Also, at power plant an Integrated Coal truck management system is implemented and commissioned for structured coal movement monitoring and control and avoid congestion.
