As we step into the vibrant festivities of Makar Sankranti, a time of new beginnings and heartfelt traditions, Sun Neo’s beloved actors Brinda Dahal, Siddhi Sharma, and Stuti Vinkle from Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, Ishq Jabariya, and Saajha Sindoor respectively share their unique celebrations and cherished memories of this special festival.
Brinda Dahal, who plays Vaishnavi in Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, expressed, “Being from Nepal, we celebrate Makar Sankranti simply by preparing chikki, laddoos, and traditional dishes like dahi chura and gud chura. There’s a unique tradition where children block roads with ropes, stopping people to ask for money while keeping idols of Shiv-Parvati on display and chanting their praises until they receive donations. Kite flying isn’t part of our celebrations, so my first experience was during the shoot of Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya on Sun Neo, where everyone taught me how to fly a kite.”
Siddhi Sharma, who plays Gulki in Ishq Jabariya on Sun Neo, shared, “Makar Sankranti is very special for us because it’s also my father’s birthday on January 14. On this day, our entire family starts the morning by visiting the temple. We have a strong tradition of donating on this day, so we donate food, clothes, and money. In the evening, there’s kite flying. While I go to enjoy, I don’t know how to fly kites, but I love watching them in the sky. I hope that my ongoing show Ishq Jabariya on Sun Neo includes a kite-flying sequence so I can relive all those childhood memories and enjoy them once again.”
Stuti Vinkle, who plays Phooli in Saajha Sindoor on Sun Neo, added, “Sankrant has always been one of my favorite festivals, especially because of the fun of flying kites. One of my favorite childhood memories is that weeks before the festival, my friends and I would stock up on kites and spend entire days on the terrace flying them non-stop. This year, I will be celebrating Makar Sankranti on the sets of our Sun Neo show Saajha Sindoor, and I hope to make it a memorable one by sharing Til Gud Laddoos with my reel-life family.”
Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya follows Vaishnavi (Brinda Dahal), an orphan who sees Chhathi Maiyya as her mother. Ishq Jabariya tells the story of Gulki (Siddhi Sharma) and her struggles to achieve her dreams. Saajha Sindoor depicts Phooli (Stuti Vinkle), who is labeled an unmarried widow after her groom dies on their wedding day.
