In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, NTPC and SECL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to utilize 13 million metric tons of ash for backfilling closed mines at Bishrampur and Dugga.
The MoU outlines the disposal of approximately 117.81 lakh cubic meters of ash for the Dugga mine and 12.02 lakh cubic meters for the Bishrampur mine. This initiative not only facilitates effective ash management but also contributes to the restoration of closed mining sites, aligning with our commitment to environmental protection.
NTPC’s three stations—Sipat, Lara, and Korba—will collaborate in supplying the ash. Specifically, NTPC Sipat will provide 5.4 million metric tons, Lara will contribute 2.9 million metric tons, and Korba will supply 4.7 million metric tons for backfilling purposes.
Signing on behalf of NTPC were Mr. Vijay Krishna Pandey (Project Head – Sipat), Mr. Anil Kumar (Project Head – Lara), and Mr. Rajeev Khanna (Project Head – Korba). From SECL, the MoU was signed by Mr. B.K. Jena (General Manager – Environment), Mr. Pradeep Kumar (Area General Manager-Bhatgaon), and Mr. Sanjay Kumar ( General Manager-Bishrampur).
This collaboration underscores the commitment of both organizations to promote sustainable practices and support environmental conservation efforts.
