Raipur, 20 July 2024 .
Bilaspur Collector Shri Awanish Sharan visited CIMS and the District Hospital on July 20. During his visit, he interacted with patients and instructed doctors to provide excellent care to patients. He directed Health Department officials to add 15 ICU and 20 general beds at the District Hospital and 10 ICU beds at CIMS to handle the surge in diarrhoea and malaria cases during emergencies. Shri Sharan emphasised the importance of better monitoring and treatment for patients. He advised rural residents to seek immediate medical help at health centres rather than relying on faith healers or quacks.
The Collector also called to organise ‘Janchaupal’ in affected villages to prevent monsoon-related illnesses. He instructed all medical staff to remain at their headquarters. Notably, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai had directed all district collectors to raise awareness about waterborne diseases during the rainy season and to ensure prompt treatment camps are set up when infections are reported.
To combat the impact of diarrhoea, the district administration, along with revenue and health department teams, conducted ‘Janchaupal’ in Madanpur. They inspected sanitation conditions in alleys and streets, educating villagers about the importance of clean water and proper nutrition. They gave the slogan “Paani Ubal Kar Peena Hai-Diarrhoea Ko Dur Karna Hai” (Boil Water Before Drinking to Prevent Diarrhoea). Health teams are conducting door-to-door surveys and distributing ORS and medicines. The PHE department has cleaned water tanks and chlorinated all borewells. Drain cleaning and bleach spraying are also underway.
Following the Collector’s directives, a cleanliness drive is being conducted every Saturday in all villages of the district. Public awareness camps are organised to educate people about seasonal diseases like diarrhoea and malaria. These camps include handwashing demonstrations, health check-ups, medicine distribution, and other awareness activities. Women from self-help groups and Mitanins are conducting door-to-door visits to inform residents about the symptoms of seasonal illnesses and preventive measures. Collective voluntary efforts are being made to clean public spaces, including temples, ponds, roads, intersections, streets, and drains. School premises and public buildings are also being cleaned. These efforts involve Swachhta Didis, public representatives, and panchayat secretaries, all working together on waste collection and sanitation.
