Raipur, 14 July 2024 / Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has directed the Health Department and the officials concerned to launch an awareness campaign for prevention of seasonal diseases. He emphasized on the need to swiftly organize health camps in areas affected by the surge of malaria, diarrhea, and other seasonal ailments. Officials have been directed to ensure prompt treatment for the patients. Shri Sai instructed the health department officials to maintain sufficient stocks of life-saving drugs including those for malaria, diarrhea, and other seasonal diseases and promptly dispatch them to affected areas upon receiving information, thus preventing potential fatalities.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Sai, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Shri Vijay Sharma visited the remote forest areas of Chilfi, Jhalamla, and Taregaon in Kabirdham district. He gathered health-related information and interacted with families of diarrhea-afflicted patients in Sonvahi village, and assured them of facilitating every possible support from the state government. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma expressed deep condolences over the sudden deaths of two villagers in Sonvahi. He inspected the temporary health camp set up at the tribal boys’ hostel and directed the doctors to enhance medical facilities. He directed district administration to formulate effective action plans to prevent outbreaks of seasonal diseases like malaria, diarrhea, cholera, and waterborne diseases in both forest and plains areas.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma further gave instructions to ensure immediate procurement of sonography machines (DMF) for government hospitals in remote forest areas of Chilfi, Jhalamla, and Taregaon.

Collector Shri Janmejay Mahobe informed that instructions were given to the Bodla SDM and CMO to conduct surveys door-to-door following the deaths of five villagers in Sonvahi due to different reasons and at different locations.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. BL Raj informed about the cases of diarrhea reported in Sonvahi. Upon receiving the information, medical teams from Jhalamla Community Health Center and Health Department arrived on July 10 to initiate health examinations of villagers at the tribal boys’ hostel. Subsequently, on July 11, district-level and additional health teams were deployed to Sonvahi village.

CMO Dr. Raj mentioned that Sonasinh returned home from his fieldwork and informed his family about feeling unwell. He started vomiting and passed away at home within three to four hours. Similarly, a woman named Phoolbai also died after vomiting multiple times. Discussions were held with villagers regarding the sudden deaths of two villagers. The primary suspicion arising from investigations and inquiries is consumption of poisonous mushrooms. The postmortem report is awaited for clarity on the cause.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma inspected the temporary health camp and interacted with the patients there. Collector Shri Janmejay Mahobe informed that Sonvahi village comprises 194 households with a total population of 580. The village has 12 wells and 2 hand pumps, along with one ANM active in the area. Continuous health examinations of villagers are being conducted upon identification of the symptoms. On July 11, health examinations were conducted on 194 individuals, resulting in the hospitalization of 8 individuals, including 7 with symptoms of seasonal fever and 1 experiencing vomiting. Similarly, on July 12, health examinations of 144 individuals identified 12 cases with symptoms of seasonal and cold fevers, who were admitted to the community health center in Jhalamla.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma has directed the officials concerned to facilitate the best possible medical treatment for all the patients.
