Liquor lovers distressed at delayed deliveries

KORBA, May 13 To ensure ease and safety for alcohol-lovers, Excise Department has started home delivery of liquor. Many people have deposited advance for booking alcohol but are still unable to get their favourite liquor. The fact is that the system is not working perfectly and within the first 2 days, liquor worth Rs 26 lakhs was stuck in the system. On the third day, Wednesday, heavy storm and rain prevented delivery.

The district went under lockdown on 12th April and along with other activities, local and foreign liquor shops were closed. The alcohol lovers were distressed at the decision and slowly, many started using medicines in place of alcohol. Several such cases resulted in death and finally, government started home delivery of liquor to prevent people from resorting to untrusted means. 3 days ago, home delivery of liquor started in the district. However, system failure and long delivery routes resulted in delayed delivery. People placed their orders on the given portal and made advance payment but liquor worth Rs 26 lakhs was stuck in the system. However, the delivery picked pace on Thursday.

As government announced home delivery of liquor, large number of orders were placed on the portal and Excise Department started delivering the orders. Assistant Commissioner of Excise Department, Gambhir Singh Naroti said that by Wednesday evening, a total of 4,562 orders were placed on the portal and 2,248 orders were delivered.
