NTPC Korba organised a Breast Cancer Camp for female contract workers

Korba, 3 May 2024: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in females in India and the leading cause of cancer deaths. However, it also responds to treatment if detected and treated at an early stage. Though its incidence rate is higher in the urban population, however, it is the rural women who bear the maximum brunt because of the lack of education and awareness.

Ultrasonography is a great tool for early detection as it is affordable, easily accessible and sensitive to small lesions in the breast and this good cause facility is available at the NTPC Korba Hospital.

Maitri Mahila Samiti, as well known to everyone, has been making efforts from time to time towards educating and uplifting the status of women in the nearby villages of NTPC Korba. This time MMS (Maitri Mahila Samiti) and NTPC Hospital, Korba have joined hands to take a step further in serving the less privileged sisters of our society.

A Breast Cancer screening camp was organised on the premises of NTPC Korba Hospital on 3 May 2024. The inauguration of the camp was done by Smt Rakhi Maheshwari, President, MMS and Shri Sarit Maheshwari, BUH NTPC Korba. CMO, NTPC Korba, Dr Vinod Kolhatkar, office bearers of MMS, HODs, and members of the union and associations also graced the occasion.

The camp will be held in stages. The first stage was targeted to benefit the contractual female workers and domestic help of the township. Dr Pratibha Archana Das, Senior Consultant ( Obs and Gynaecology) and Dr Parimita Hura, Consultant( Radiology) did the screening. Dr. Pratibha Das did the clinical examination as a first level of screening. Women found suitable for the next level were examined on Ultrasonography by Dr. Parimita Hura.

On the first day of the camp, 52 patients were registered and examined clinically. 37 underwent USG scanning also.

This initiative of MMS and NTPC Hospital helps grow faith and promises the underprivileged women of the society for better well-being.
