Raigarh, 10 June. Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) organised by NTPC Lara is empowering young minds of nearby villages to enable and equip themselves to dream big and achieve it. At NTPC Lara this transformative journey is undergoing with 40 girl children reading in government schools in the age group of 10-12 years. This year the flagship CSR initiative of NTPC Limited is entering in the 6th year and Lara is hosting this programme for 4th consecutive years with 40 young minds. This initiative is aligned with the government’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign. The programme has been designed for productive utilisation of summer vacation so that the children can learn the course curriculum in an interactive environment. At NTPC Lara this GEM programme is being organised from 17th May to 13th June 2025.
GEM offers a dynamic curriculum blending academics in Hindi, English, Mathematics and Environmental Science with practical training in computer literacy, yoga, personal health and hygiene, dance, drama, sports and games, self-defence and public speaking. Eminent women figures are invited for motivating the young minds with their experience and learning. At Lara Ms. Neha Upadhyay, Tehsildar, Pussore took a session on how to make a dream into reality. Roshni Sao is a participant of this workshop who wants to be a doctor to serve people, The reason behind her dream job is being residing in a remote village for better health care service they need to travel long for specialised health care service. Sakshi Chouhan wants to be a police officer, Sunaina Nishad dreams to be a good teacher to educate the future generation. The story is not ending here, all 40 participants have a dream. NTPC Lara acts as a medium to fulfil their dream into reality.

Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD of NTPC Limited interacted with the participants and took their feedback. Shri Pradipita Kumar Mishra, RED (WR-II & Ash NI) interacted with the girls and shared his childhood experience with the participants. Besides, Smt Ayesha Mishra, President, Arpita Mahila Samiti took a session on how to take care of personal health and hygiene. Executive Director, NTPC Lara, Shri Anil Kumar and Smt Anuradha Sharma, President, Prerita Mahila Samiti monitoring the programme regularly. Members of Prerita Mahila Samiti remain present to monitor all day activities. The day starts with a yoga practice session in the morning and the day progresses with reading of course material, computer class, art and craft, self-defence and sports.
The programme does not end after closing of this GEM programme, by different programmes in regular interval NTPC Lara remains in-touch with these GEMs. This programme fosters gender equality, confidence and life skills enabling girls to emerge as independent change makers.
